Bookish

All righty guys, who is ready for some fantastic book recommendations?? I don’t know about you all but as soon as the weather starts to even have the hint of coolness (or in the case this year, the weather is still very warm but Starbucks has released their Pumpkin Spice Lattes), all I want to do is hibernate with my books and my coffee the rest of the winter.

Sometimes I am very envious of bears and their caves.

But, enough talk! On to the books!!

Every year, like clockwork, I always get the urge to go re-read this amazing book by Francine Rivers. The Atonement Child is an incredible story of redemption, forgiveness and a girl coming to know exactly who Jesus is. Such a beautifully written story! I can’t recommend this enough.

Jenny B. Jones is a hilarious writer and her book Save the Date is no exception! I loved this romance and I know y’all will too. It’s the perfect thing to read while snuggled up under a blanket and drinking something hot and sweet. 🙂

And it’s almost exactly a month from this book’s release date… 😉

Yay! I do hope you’ll join me for more of Paige, Luke and Tyler in Paige Rewritten!

Tonight I’m really wanting something apple-y and fall-y and sweet, so I think I’m going to dig up our old fall favorite and make our infamous That Apple Thing! Here’s the recipe for anyone who wants to make a truly easy and totally amazing dessert! I might even whip up a quick powdered sugar and milk icing to drizzle over the top. 🙂

That Apple Thing

1 can of
Pillsbury Crescent Roll Creations (this is just a can of crescent
rolls, but they aren’t perforated. Makes it a lot easier)
1 Granny Smith apple
3 heaping tbsp butter
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg
1 tbsp sugar mixed with 1 tsp. cinnamon

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Chop
the apple finely and dump it, the butter, brown sugar and 1 tsp
cinnamon into a saucepan. Mix together on medium-high heat until apple
is softened.

Roll out the crescent rolls sheet (if you’re using
just regular crescents, just mash the perforations together). Spread the
apple mixture on it almost up to all the edges. Then quickly roll up
from the short side, pinching all of the edges together so you’ve got a
little log of deliciousness.

Brush the top and sides with a
little of the egg and then sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mix over the top.
Bake for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Enjoy! What are your book recommendations?? And do you have any tried and true fall recipes??

  1. I am currently re-reading Snitch by Rene Gutteridge (book 2 in the Occupational Hazards) and it is fun/funny. Prior to that was Sophie's Heart by Lori Wick. One of my favorite reads is Flabbergasted by Ray Blackston (his others are all great too). Favorite newly discovered authors are Sarah Sundin and Dani Pettrey. Hmmm. Now I want to go read some more!

  2. Looking forward to your next book coming out!! For historical fiction, I love reading Julie Klassen and Sarah Sundin. For more modern fiction, Sandra Bricker and I really enjoyed "Once Upon a Prince" by Rachel Hauck. I'm happy fall is on it's way – I'm ready for a bit cooler weather. 🙂

  3. The only book I've read so far by Francine Rivers is "Redeeming Love" and that ranks in my top 5 for sure!! My parents got it for me after I went through a bad break up and when I was ready, God used that book to heal me. I read "Save the Date" this past spring and loved it as well!

Colleen Coble is the newest author that has made it to my "Favorites List" with her Mercy Falls series. As soon as I finished those three I ran to the book store to start another series.

This week I finished reading "Maid to Match" by Deeanne Gist and it was fabulous!

  4. I'm currently reading Trapped by Irene Hannon the sequel to Vanished. Both are great books! I'd highly reccomend both of them for all the Romantic and Suspense fans like me. Anything by Janice Thompson. I just finished reading last week Janice Thompson's newest book Icing on the cake. Janice's books will have you laughing out loud throughout the story.

  5. I just finished reading Picture Perfect (Weddings by Design Book 1) by Janice Thompson and Smitten by Colleen Coble, Kristen Billerbeck, Diann Hunt and Denise Hunter. Both of the books were really good and I would recommend them. For recipes, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and bread are always so delicious for the Fall season! : ) I'm so excited to read your next book and can't wait for October!! : )

  6. I like anything by Janice Thompson, I loved her wedding by Bella series. They'll your find me by Jenny B Jones. Historical fiction I like anything by Laura Frantz and Tamera Alexander.

  7. Currently, I'm reading Mary Connealy's newest book, Fired Up. She writes with a great sense of humor, and I love her Western style.
And I love Francine Rivers! Have you read her Marta's Legacy series? They are amazing!
My mom and I got the opportunity to meet Beverly Lewis today at the Lifeway store near us. She was so sweet and genuine! Can't want to read her newest book!
Also can't wait for Paige Rewritten…pretty sure that's something my parents are going to get me for my birthday 😉
    Happy fall!

  8. My all time favorite series is The O'Malleys (Danger in the Shadows, The Negotiator, The Guardian, The Truth Seeker, The Protector, The Healer, and The Rescuer) by Dee Henderson. It was the first adult christian fiction series my mom let me read and it is still my favorite series over ten years later.

  9. I recently read "Written on the Wind" by Judith Pella – set in USA and Europe during WWII – follows 3 sisters. I loved it (enough to order the next book) Thanks for the other book recommendations!
